Pabst Brewing Co Discontinues Olympia Beer As Olympia Artesian Vodka Continues On

D.J.Beer historyBeer newsWashington BeerCans of ice cold Olympia Beer will be a thing of the past as Pabst Brewing Co. discontinues production of the beer.

Today, Olympia Beer made the announcement on its that Olympia Beer will be discontinued, at least for the near future. The long-term goal for Olympia Beer appears to find investors to bring back the beer known for its slogan of, Its the Water, to its original hometown of Tumwater, Washington.

Owned by Pabst Brewing Company and part of the brewerys portfolio of legacy brands, Olympia Beer has not been brewed in its hometown since 2003. Olympia Beer got its start in 1896 when Leopold Schmidt founded the brewery in Tumwater along the banks of the Deschutes River. Through the years the brewery grew and expanded from its original location that is currently being restored to a new, larger facility that is easily seen along Interstate 5.

In the 1980s the brewery was sold to G. Heileman Brewing Co. and then a decade later to the Stroh Brewery Co. in 1996. In 1999, Pabst Brewing Co. purchased many of the brands under the Stroh Brewing Co. portfolio that included Olympia Beer. But the brewery itself ended up in the hands of Miller Brewing Co. where it brewed Olympia in Tumwater until closing the brewery down 2003. Most recently, Olympia Beer has been contract brewed by Molson Coors in Irwindale, California, a brewery that just recently changed hands and is now owned by Pabst Brewing Co.

The Olympia Brewing Company was founded in 1896 in the city of Tumwater, Washington, just outside Olympia. The company’s flagship beer is Olympia Beer, which is a pale lager that has been brewed in the same style since its inception. Olympia beer is available in cans and bottles, and is also available on tap at some bars and restaurants.

Olympia beer has a long and storied history, and has been reviewed by many different publications over the years. The beer has generally received positive reviews, with praise for its crisp, clean flavor and its low price. Olympia beer is often described as a good “session” beer, meaning it is a beer that can be drunk in large quantities over the course of an evening without becoming too intoxicating.

One of the most common Olympia beer reviews is that it is a “gateway beer.” This means that it is a good beer for people who are just starting to drink beer, or who are trying to expand their horizons beyond the typical mass-produced lagers. Olympia beer is a good entry-level craft beer, and can help people develop a taste for more complex and flavorful beers.

Overall, Olympia beer is a good, solid beer that is perfect for any occasion. Whether you are looking for a cheap, easy-drinking beer for a party, or a more sophisticated craft beer to savor, Olympia beer is a great choice.

Pabst Ceases Production Of Olympia Beer Brand Turns Focus To Distilling Operation

Citing a growing decline in demand and sales, Pabst Brewing Company announced it is temporarily pausing production of the 125-year-old Olympia Beer brand.

In a post titled Farewell for now to the Olympia page, the company wrote that it had spent several years trying to bring Olympia Beer back home to be brewed locally but sales of the brand had continued to slide.

Sadly, we have not been able to find a solution to the challenges posed by reduced beer sales and have had to make the difficult decision of temporarily pausing production of Olympia Beer, the company wrote. We remain committed to finding the best solution to keep brewing Olympia Beer in the future.

Although the legacy lager brand is going into hibernation for an undetermined amount of time, Pabst wrote that Olympias story will continue in Tumwater at the Olympia Distilling Co., which was started in 2020 with the Olympia Artesian Vodka brand.

e remain hopeful that we can bring our beloved beer home someday, the company wrote. We are dedicated to carrying on Leopold Schmidts legacy and ensuring that Olympias story lives on for many years to come.

The Instagram post confirms rumors of the Olympia beer brands demise, which began circulating last week as retailers told The Olympian that the brand was ceasing production and they were buying up remaining stock of the beer.

Use Of Artesian Water

For many years, Olympia Beer was brewed with water obtained from artesian wells. The company’s promotions made much of the use of artesian water in the brewing process. One later advertising campaign, rather than explaining what artesian water was, claimed the water was controlled by a mythical population of “artesians”. Once the brewery was taken over by a larger company, the use of artesian water was discontinued, and so was that advertising campaign.

In downtown Olympia, current efforts to preserve the use of artesian water at one of the remaining public wells has been the mission of H2Olympia: Artesian Well Advocates.
