Bourbon whiskey is a type of American whiskey that is a barrel-aged distilled liquor made mainly from corn. The name comes from the French Bourbon dynasty, although it is still debated till today whether the Kentucky county or New Orleans Street inspired this whiskey’s name. Bourbon has been produced since the 18th century, but the name “Bourbon” was not used until the 1850s. You can find this liquor being made anywhere in the United States, but bourbon is strongly identified with the American South in general, and Kentucky in particular.

Bourbon has a long ageing process that allows for that great flavor you love. After maturing the bourbon in the process, the bourbon is taken from the barrel and usually diluted with water. The bourbon is then bottled to at least 80 US proof. Some higher-proof bottles are marketed as “barrel proof”, which means that they have not been diluted or have been only lightly diluted after removal from the barrels. Bourbon whiskey may be sold at less than 80 proof but must be labeled as “diluted bourbon”.

Bourbon can be served neat, diluted with water, over ice cubes, or mixed with juice or soda into delicious bourbon cocktails, including the Manhattan, the Old Fashioned, the whiskey sour, and the mint julep. Bourbon can also used in cooking. Buy whiskey online and use this versatile bourbon for many different things. Get out that bottle of bourbon for any occasion.

Where Is Yellowstone Bourbon Made

Yellowstone Bourbon is produced by Limestone Branch Distillery Inc. in Lebanon, Kentucky. Over the years, the brand moved around from one distillery to another since it was created before settling in Kentucky.

The distillerys location is crucial as its situated near a local grain and limestone water source.

How Is Yellowstone Bourbon Made

There is a bit of art and science that goes into making every Yellowstone Bourbon bottle. And, of course, a dash of magic. Heres how the spirit is made at Limestone Branch:

First, the grains are mixed to make the mash bill. For Yellowstone, 75% corn, 13% rye, and 12% malted barley are used. Open-pollinated white heirloom corn is preferred because it gives the spirit a slightly lighter whiskey flavor. The mixture is heated in three stages to break down the starches. A particular strain of yeast is then added to aid with fermentation which goes on for roughly 72hours. After distillation, the distillate is stored in newly charred oak barrels to begin the aging process.

Bourbon is the second powerhouse in the whisky world and its made in America primarily from corn. Unlike in Scotland and Ireland where whisky is made primarily from the same grain, American whiskeys are often made from a mix of different grains, known as mash. In fact, its quite common for an American whiskey to made up of corn, wheat, rye and barley.

For bourbon to be called bourbon, it must be made from a minimum of 51% corn, must be distilled to an ABV of no more than 80%, and must be aged in new charred-oak barrels. The charred-oak barrels and corn are easily the biggest factors that differentiates bourbon from other whiskys, as it gives the whiskey a much sweeter flavor and smoother texture than barley.
