The Future Of Redbridge Gluten

There was a ripple of news on social networking sites yesterday about the future of Anheuser -Buschs gluten-free Redbridge beer. On Twitter there were tweets that said the company was planning to discontinue the beer next month.

But a company spokesman late yesterday told Gluten-Free Living the beer giant has no plans to discontinue Redbridge in the near or distant future. He was perplexed about the rumor and said he had no idea where it might have come from.

Just recently, Gluten-Free Living was told that the beer was selling extremely well, so we were not sure what to make of rumors of Redbridges demise. Until we officially hear otherwise, we are going to count on the continued availability of a product that is appreciated by a significant segment of the adult gluten-free community.

The New Version Of Redbridge Beer

I spoke with Anheuser Busch in 2010 about Redbridge, and was told that they reformulated the beer to improve the flavor, and to expand their market.

They added a citrus component, which may be why it tastes less sweet. And because some states have restrictions on alcohol content, reducing the alcohol to 3.2 allows them to make it available to more customers.

I encourage you to give it a try. It’s available at Whole Foods Markets, and at many restaurants.

Four Things I Like About Redbridge Beer

  • It tastes great. Especially when it’s icy cold. I’ve tried other gluten free beers and many are kind of sweet or heavy tasting, which I don’t care for.

  • In fact, the first version of Redbridge was too sweet, but they have reformulated the beer to expand the market.

  • It’s inexpensive. I found another gluten free beer that was pretty good, but it was way more expensive.

  • Available in 12 oz bottles. Since I usually only want one bottle, the liters some gluten-free beers come in don’t make sense for me.

  • It’s a light beer: the alcohol content is low. But in spite of that it doesn’t taste watered down. Since I’m drinking for the flavor and a little relaxation, and I’m a little short on drinking stamina, I appreciate that it’s a 3.2 beer. I can always enjoy a second without fear of trashing myself.

  • Did I say 4 things? Here’s a fifth: the happy accident that Steve thinks Redbridge Beer is a really good beer. Like I mentioned above, he’s very particular about his beer, so this was a surprise. And when he wants something light, there’s usually something in the house.

    What Beers Have Sorghum

Sorghum is a type of grass that is often used as a grain or sweetener. It is also used in some beers as a gluten-free alternative to barley. Beers that contain sorghum may be labeled as gluten-free,sorghum beer, or sorghum malt beer. Some examples of beers that contain sorghum include:

    Why Is Gluten

The price of gluten-free beer is affected by a few different things. The first is that, in order to be truly gluten-free, the beer must be brewed without barley. This means that alternative ingredients must be used, which can be more expensive than barley. Secondly, even if barley is used in the brewing process, there are ways to extract the gluten from it during brewing. This process, called de-glutenisation& rsquor , can also add to the cost of the beer. Finally, because gluten-free beers are still a niche product, there is less demand for them and so brewers may charge a premium price.
