Power Walking In Paradise
Johnnie Walkers Keep Walking campaign started around the same time as Ardbegs now infamous 2014 Auriverdes advertising campaign. For those of you not in the know, that Ardbeg Day release was named after the Brazilian World Cup team. This caused some eyebrows to go up. Yeah, yeah, everyone knew the World Cup was being held in Brazil that year.
The big newspapers all went for it. So did the big magazines, and the big media. So, what was the problem? In my opinion, one year with a South American name wasnt a problem.
This said, when many people drink Scotch, regardless of their nationality or race, they like to think of Scotland, or at least the UK. Scottish whisky is not like Coca-Cola. Its a very special beverage. Even the name Scotch contains the place where it was born, and where it continues to be made.
But why have Viking themes worked so well, and for so long? The reason is simple: its because Highland Park is located in the Orkney islands, which are the northernmost part of Scotland. Norway is just across a rather cozy stretch of Atlantic, a waterway that Longships navigated over one thousand years ago.

Why Is Macallan Expensive
Macallan uses premium ingredients. It starts with the barley thats specially grown for the Macallan Distillery and ends with the aging barrels. The barley itself costs about 30-40% more than other whiskies. Because it costs more to make, it costs more to purchase, but its well worth the investment for the consistent quality they produce.

What Makes Macallan Special
Macallan is known across the globe for producing excellent whisky and doing so consistently. They set the example for what a single malt Scotch should be. The aging process gives it balance and character, making it recognizable as a Macallan.Macallan is unique because they produce consistent quality better than most other manufacturers youll find today. Despite their large production, theyve stayed true to this quality throughout. In fact, many people think of a distillery like Macallan that produces the volume they do to be a corporate bottling facility with the bottom dollar on their mind. However, Macallan has always put quality above production numbers, and in doing so, have been able to achieve success in both.

Johnnie Walker High Rye
Like bumping into an old acquaintance, an unexpected sample of a former favorite brand can elicit diverse emotions.
Theres the initial jolt of surprise, which morphs quickly into the small thrill of recognition. This familiarity brings back recollections of shared times in days long since gone. Even if these memories are happy ones, theres the slightly bitter twinge that comes from the realization of times inexorable passage. There can also be a slight awkwardness, as lifes divergent paths are manifest in the contrasts in appearance. Some of us age better than others.
Johnnie Walker was a companion to me at a time when I knew little about whisky and cared even less about it. That may come as a surprise to our readers who have endured my many obsessive, persnickety, pedantic dissertations on this site. Believe it or not, I once had better things to do than bloviate endlessly about brown spirits.
I grew up, got married , and have been blessed with two happy, healthy kids. On the whisky side, my tastes gradually evolved to favor single malts more than blends, and eventually shifted more toward other whisky regions outside Scotland. Throughout this process, Johnnie Walker dwindled in my whisky consciousness, to the point I barely thought about it at all.
And yet, in that way that might muse on the path taken by an erstwhile associate, I sometimes found myself thinking I wonder what Johnnie is up to?
As always, its fun to reproduce the brands own description verbatim:

Johnnie Walker Launches Sweeter Whisky To Keep Up With Evolving Market
The Scotch Whisky brand has launched Johnnie Walker Blonde, designed to keep up with a change in whos ordering whisky, and how theyre drinking it, says brand ambassador Tim Philips-Johansson.
The Diageo-owned brand has announced the global launch of Johnnie Walker Blonde, following its introduction via launch programme in 2021 across cities in Brazil, Mexico, the US, Bulgaria, Germany and Thailand.
The new serve was described as amore accessible style of Scotch created to encourage new drinkers to the category in a press release put out by the brand.
Johnnie Walker Blonde, formally known as Johnnie Blonde during its launch programme, was developed by whisky maker George Harper, and led by Johnnie Walker master blender Emma Walker.
Harper said while the new serve has the depth of flavour that Scotch fans expect the added sweeter, smoother flavours make it the perfect choice for people looking for something new.
Johnnie Walker Blonde is one of the most versatile whiskies that our small team of expert whisky makers has ever made, he added.
Scotch from Cameronbridge has been blended with fruitier whiskies from Cardhu, which have been matured in American oak to add sweet toffee and caramel notes, brought together with fresh, fruit flavours from across Scotland.
This has allowed us to push the brightness and vibrancy of this Scotch further than ever before, Harper said.

Scotch Whiskey: The Difference Between Johnnie Walker Black And Red
Johnnie Walker is one of the worlds most famous names in scotch whisky, and for good reason. From his humble beginning as a grocer in the early 19th century, Johnnie Walker created a business that his son Alexander and grandsons Alexander II and George would later solidify into a thriving global brand. Consistently leading the industry as the worlds most popular whisky, Johnnie Walker blends can be found in virtually any bar and liquor store in countries where alcohol consumption is legal.
Both Red Label and Black Label are blended scotch whiskies, which means at least two different types of component whiskies are blended to create a complex taste. These blends consist of single malt and single grain whiskies produced in several distilleries throughout Scotland. Single malt whiskies contain 100% malted barley, while single grain whiskies use cereal grains, typically wheat, malted barley, and corn. Barrels of these types of whisky would have been distilled separately, then blended to create the final product.
What Does Johnnie Walker Scotch Whisky Taste Like
Each bottle of Johnnie Walker has a unique taste based on the whiskies that go into the blend. Overall, the whisky is known for its smoothness and warmth. It is a robust whisky with notes of fruits, spice, malt, and oak. While it does have the subtle smokiness that is a signature of Scotch whisky, it is not a peaty whisky so it’s very approachable.

Legalisation Of Whisky Distillation And Origins Of Whisky Production
In Scotland, distilling whisky had been legalised in 1823, leading to a proliferation in the number of brands. Some were produced at 7072% , but the majority were at 6065% ABV, imbibed after cutting with water. Arthur Bell defined a “fine whisky” as one that was sold at ~65% ABV. These were savoured after adding soda.
Vatting of whiskies within bond warehouses was legalised in 1853 by The Forbes-Mackenzie Act, and, with blending, the number of brands made available for sale increased overnight. During this period, Stewart and James Chivas decided to respond to their affluent customers’ demands for better whisky, by blending select malts to create a proprietary blend. The firm’s first blended malt Scotch whisky, the Royal Glen Dee, was launched in 1854. Stewart left in 1857, making way for John and the company could now be named Chivas Brothers. In 1863, they launched a proprietary blended Scotch whisky, a smoothly crafted blend of 10-year-old malt and grain whiskies, Royal Strathythan.
The May 8, 1890, edition of Scotland Magazine described Chivas Brothers as “undoubtedly the finest purveying business in the north of Scotland”.
Which Is Better Dewars Or Johnnie Walker
Bottom Line: The Dewar’s beats by a nose literally. It has a tad more nose, and delivers a bit more in the palate as well, with it’s almost aromatherapy-level of smoke showing up. The heavy sweetness may put off some, of course, and Johnnie is overall a more refreshing, neutral sip with a smoother finish.
