Smuggling Alcohol On Board
Smuggle at your own risk!
- There are currently no retributions other than the alcohol being confiscated if you get caught. The confiscated alcohol will even be returned to you at the end of the cruise if it is confiscated in the original manufacturer sealed container. All other containers will not be returned.
- Carnival confiscates dozens of water/soda/wine bottles that have been refilled with liquor prior to almost every cruise. Its been this way for a long time. You have a VERY LOW chance of getting smuggled liquor on this way. In 2015 Carnival began banning all bottles from being brought onboard, exception being one bottle of wine or champagne 750ml in size or less per person in their carry-on luggage.
- People tend to smuggle because purchasing liquor through the Fun Shops / Bon Voyage is 2-3 times more expensive than buying it at their local liquor store. You should also need to weigh in the convenience of having it waiting for you in your cabin versus having to go to the store to purchase it, repackageing it to smuggle, transporting it to the ship and then hope it doesn’t get caught. When you weigh in all the factors purchasing through the Fun Shops / Bon Voyage is a pretty good option. Don’t forget to also check out the “Cheers” Beverage Program that Carnival is now offering.

Buy Bumbu Spiced Rum Online
So, Bumbu, is a Bajan Spiced Rum, Barbados. The Rums are distilled over there in Barbados. And they’re using sugar cane from all over the West Indies. They kind of source the sugar cane from different islands and the mainland as well, just to kind of get the best of the best and distil it to make their base Rum. Right, so we haven’t got too much of marketing going on here, not too much for a story, the only thing I can tell you about is the brand, where it comes from, Bumbu. Bumbu is the technical West Indian name given to a grog, kind of a blend of different spices. And it kind of dates back to the old sort of pirate era. Lots of different Rums blended together, lots of different spices. So that’s what the brand name is all about. Bumbu is literally, translates into, lots of different spices.

Does Average Work For You
Another common question is what is the average liquor cost for bars and restaurants? It’s great to work with industry benchmarks, but the average pour cost across the U.S. isn’t always helpful. That’s because there are unique factors that must be taken into account for every venue.
Pour costs or liquor costs are based on your direct costs and gross margin, but different establishments may have significantly different indirect and/or fixed costs that aren’t including in pour costs. Rent in New York City is much higher than rent in rural Nebraska. So two bars with the same pour cost, may have drastically different net profits.
But as a starting point, industry averages can help you find the right path to determine how your bar or restaurants’ beverage costs compare, and where you can improve. The industry average for total beverage programs is somewhere between 18 – 24 percent. Below is a breakdown of average pour costs across different drink types.
In the above infographic, we see that different drink types yield different average costs. That’s just one reason industry benchmarks shouldn’t be used exclusively as a ballast for determining where your beverage cost should land.
Another reason, as mentioned earlier, is that pour costs are a measure of margin, not profits. As you can see above, pour costs for wine tend to be much higher than beer. But would you rather sell a table a $200 bottle of wine at a 40% pour cost, or 4 glasses of $8 beer at a 20% pour cost?

Barbados Private Estate 1780
Distilled in 1780 in the cellars of Harewood House, Leeds, the Barbados Private Estate 1780 rum is rare and precious.
It was distilled two centuries ago, but most of the bottles went untouched until the 2010s, catching the eye of collectors and rum lovers alike.
It can be auctioned for anywhere between $1,100 and $13,000. While the rums color is a pale yellow, the flavor is much bolder. Its lethally powerful with a fresh taste.
When you combine it with a drop or two of water, it exhibits a light fruity taste, making it seem new and delicate, despite being hundreds of years old.

Bacard Superior Rum Bottled In Spain In The 1940s
Price: $2,825 a bottle
This clear vintage rum by Bacardí is something of a trip through a time machine. In the 1940s, many rum drinkers appreciated extra alcohol. Every bottle of this Bacardí vintage contains 700 ml of alcohol, with no trace of the impurities still common in other brands at the time. Bottles must be opened with care because they are all over 70, and some nearly 80 years old.

Original Royal Naval Rum Tot
The Original Royal Naval Rum Tot is a less rare find but still a pricey bottle.
It costs under $1,000 and has an impeccable flavor, and smooth finish that all rum lovers agree is sensational.
It contains the last stocks of Royal Navy Rum that were untouched in barrels for more than four decades on a ship, so it has a deep history.
The flavor will knock you over, as this is anything but a gentle flavor. It has notes of coffee, chocolate, and oak that hit your tongue immediately.
But with notes of berry and cherry, it also has a slight sweetness that balances out the hefty taste.

Bumbu Original Spiced Rum Review
In this video, I am talking Bumbu Spiced Rum, so if you want to know all about it, what it tastes like, what it smells like, what recommended highballs, mixers, work very well with this, and cocktail serves. Stay tuned.
This is Bumbu, and this is a 35 percenter. So, not officially a Spiced Rum, this is Rum based spirit drink, however, the only bone of contention for me, if you are producing a 35% spirit-based drink, then don’t price it as a premium Rum. £28. I’ve just filmed Bounty, which comes all the way from Saint Lucia, it’s a cracking Spiced Rum, less than £20, 40% ABV. However, ignoring all that, ignoring the price, ignoring the ABV, what does the actual liquid taste like? Because that is essentially the only thing that matters with our drinks. So let’s tell you a bit more about it.
Best Flavored: Seagrams Peach Twisted Gin
Seagrams produces a good gin for the price. It doesnt have the full flavor of Gordons, but it still contains a pleasant juniper profile. The company also bottles flavored gins the lime is a favorite and watermelon is certainly quirky. However, Seagrams Peach Twisted Gin really steals the show.
Bottled at 70-proof, the original Seagrams gin is blended with peach liqueur for a fun take on the botanical spirit. The liqueur also makes it sweeter, so youll want to take that into account when using it in drinks. This one does well with a little soda, so mix it into a Tom Collins, but hold back on the sweetener or top it with an equally affordable dry sparkling wine. It can even be very enjoyable on the rocks.

Youll also need a distillers licence and to get approval for your plant and process before you can begin creating gin to sell to the public.
Its important to note that youll have to pay a high alcohol duty on gin. Currently the duty charged on spirits is £28.74 per litre of pure alcohol.

- Bacardi Superior
The Bacardi bottle most of us will be familiar with Bacardi Superior, is their white, or silver, rum. This bottle is a blend of rums aged for at least one year and may contain small amounts of rum aged for up to three years. While there are better white rums on the market, dont let the stigma against large corporations scare you off this bottle. Its a solid cocktail rum for an affordable price of $10.99$19.99 a 750ml bottle, and a solid standard to measure other bottles against.
The primary difference between Bacardi Superior and Bacardi Gold is that the gold bottling is only filtered once through charcoal. In addition, the gold bottling is made up of a blend of rums primarily aged for two years in white oak casks. The price of Bacardi Gold is similar to that of Bacardi Superior.
Bacardi Black is a blend of rums aged between one and three years in charred oak barrels. Strong notes of molasses and vanilla are balanced with oak and orange peel. Like most black rums, it isnt particularly old, and the color derives from char on the barrels and added molasses or flavorings.
- Bacardi Anejo Cuatro
Aged for four years in white oak barrels, the Bacardi Anejo Cuatro is a better option for aged rum than the gold or black offerings from Bacardi, which is also reflected in its price of $18.99-$24.99 for a 750ml bottle. Smooth notes of vanilla and cloves pair with the classic Bacardi white oak in this bottle.

How To Price Spirits
Spirits, like draft beer, maintain some of the lower liquor costs out of any alcoholic beverage segment. The benefit of spirits over draft beer is that they often sell at a higher dollar value so you benefit from the combination of large margins and high price points.
Industry liquor cost standard for spirits is 18% 20%.
High volume in spirits is one of the reasons that night clubs can generate some of the highest profits in the hospitality industry. That and features like bottle service, for which night clubs can sell liquor bottles with mark ups of 200% or more!
With spirits like whiskey or vodka, most drinkers will order them in cocktails or mixed drinks. Or even if they drink the spirits alone, they might call for rocks or ask for a double. All of these factors can changing the servings of spirits in a drink and the pour cost for making that drinks.
For example, if someone orders whiskey on the rocks, you’ll want to adjust your portion and pricing. Standard pour size for a rocks pour is usually an additional .5oz up from the normal volume served for a neat pour of a spirit. So if your normal neat pour is 1.5oz., your rocks would be 2oz.
Make sure to account for this with a modifier button in your point-of-sale system with an up charge associated with it.
And to properly charge for spirit modifiers that change pour size of a drink.
