Does Sammy Hagar Still Own Tequila

Santo Spirits x Guy Fieri / Sammy Hagar

Fans of Sammy Hagar have expressed their enjoyment with how well it tastes like Cabo Wabo. You know what I mean. One reviewer on tequila matchmaker stated, Its like the original Cabo Wabonot the new crap. Campari still owns and operates a distillery in Destiladora San Nicols, where it still produces Cabo Wabo.

Tequila World Gets Hot With Justin Timberlake And Mark Wahlberg

Toda tequila is gaining popularity in the United States with rising stars such as Justin Timberlake and Mark Walhberg participating. Justin Timberlake and Kevin Ruder launched 901 tequila in 2009, and he is the brands founder. In January 2014, Beam purchased a significant stake in Sauza-BILOX and renamed it Sauza 901. A few weeks ago, Mark Wahlberg was appointed as the teams owner-partner, joining forces with Abraham Ancer and Aron Marquez, both Mexican PGA golfers. Because he is well-known for his roles in Hollywood, it is no surprise that he is getting into the tequila game.

Santo 110 Blanco Tequila750ml

The maximum proof under NOM standards is 110 proof. Just like our founders, this tequila pushes the limits and shines through in its mastery of craft. The 110 proof blanco is for bold spirits who want to explore all of the expressions of tequila. We recommend enjoying this agave-forward tequila over an ice cube with a splash of water or in a lighter cocktail that complements this elevated tequila. On one of our trips to the El Viejito Distillery, our Master Distiller pulled out a bottle we hadn’t seen before and poured us all a glass. When he told us it was his 110 proof blanco, we were amazed by how smooth and flavorful this high-proof tequila was and knew that we needed to share it rather than keep it a secret. Now you too can drink what the distiller drinks.

Negotiating Tips From Brittney Griners Agent

Fieri will never be one of those celebrities that simply adds his name to a liquor line, I want to go down to the ranch in Jalisco and plant, harvest, I want to go for two weeks and do everything. When I started my winery, I did everything. Because I care, Ive got to be in it for real. Sammy and I are harvesting mature plants and carving down the piña . We are double roasting it and cooking it through, so we get everything out of it. And the beautiful thing about it is since I am very organic and into sustainability, we take the leftover water and pieces and use that as fertilizer for the crops.

It was as if he had tasted food for the very first time as he relished in sharing his inspiration for each flavor, from seafood ceviche to Chicken Chile Verdes Sopes. His deep knowledge of food from around the world also inspires him to put particular value in everything he prepares, noting how the simplest ingredients like Borracho Beans and Mexican Fried rice are primary staples on most tables in Mexico.

Sammy Hagar And Guy Fieri Talk Tequila Brand: We Do It Our Way

When it comes to celebrity tequila brands , rock and roll legend Sammy Hagar is the original. Hes been in the tequila business for almost thirty years, starting out with his award-winning Cabo Wabo brand back in 1991. Now, the Red Rocker is throwing his hat back in the ring with Santo Tequila, a joint effort with celebrity chef Guy Fieri.

Founded in 2017, the duos brand currently boasts three varieties of tequila: Blanco, Reposado and a blended Mezquila. Like Cabo Wabo, Santo is the real deal. An old-style creation process is overseen by third-generation master distiller Juan Eduardo Nunez in the highlands of Jalisco, Mexico. The distillery utilizes 100% Blue Weber agave, which is slow-cooked in ovens, put through a traditional roller mill and distilled in small copper pot stills. The result? An authentic Mexican tequila with a complex flavor and a smooth drinking experience.

More from Rolling Stone

The Mezquila was the first entry in Santos lineup, with the Blanco following in 2019, and the Reposado launching this year.

Tequila is just really my passion, he told Rolling Stone, at an intimate launch event for Santo at Montanas Lone Mountain Ranch a favorite retreat for Hagar, and celebs like Justin Timberlake and John Mayer. This time around, Hagar says, his approach to building a tequila line changed: Im a perfectionist now, he says, of what hes bringing to Santo.

Before Tequila Fieri Was Drinking The Kool

Santo Tequila Founders Sammy Hagar + Guy Fieri Cover Story

Years before Fieri was smashing flavor profiles on our screens, he was selling Kool-Aid in his neighborhood. Known for rolling his sleeves up, Fieri literally dipped his youthful arm into pitchers of the iconic 80’s beverage until his father noticed. “My dad kicked me out of the Kool-Aid business after he caught me with a purple arm. I’d lost my stirring stick, my dog took it, and my dad busted me. He said, ‘That’s it, you’re out.'”

The budding beverage king learned a valuable lesson as an up-and-coming entrepreneur. “I always had a couple of businesses going as a kid. I was a budding entrepreneur growing up in the angelic town of Ferndale, California. I always had businesses, and tourists were always coming through. I’d buy penny candy from the candy store and sell it for a nickel across the street with my own little booth made out of cardboard. People couldn’t believe this little kid was making money.” While his entrepreneurial Kool-Aid days are behind him, it wasn’t the only time Fieri would go on to make a profit selling beverages .

Sammy Hagar’s Tequila Tasting Tips

You guys are obviously very hands-on with the Santo production process. When you’re doing a tasting, does Sammy sort of get into tequila snob mode? Do things get a little crazy after a few samples?

Sammy: No. Hell no. We don’t do the snob move. That is like … the way I say you taste tequila is number one, you taste a blanco. I don’t even want to taste your reposado and your añejo until I’ve tasted your blanco. Because that’s the one that’s got holes in it. Once you put it in wood, you can mask all kinds of things. So I say you taste a blanco first, straight up. I always like to put a piece of salt on my tongue. Not a big chunk, just a little bit of salt. Clear my palate before you have your first sip. You don’t have to do it every time, just the first time. Put it in the same glass as the other glass that you’re tasting a different one. That’s the only snobbery I do because I really want to give each one its chance to shine the same. So you use the same type of glass. You have it at the same temperature. You don’t have one colder and one hotter. That’s as snobby as I get.

Other than that, Guy and I, man, we drink from bottle, brother. We like to drink tequila. Somebody says, “What’s your favorite tequila drink?” I’m going straight from the bottle, brother. Chilled down a little bit. I don’t want it too hot. I don’t like it come out of the refrigerator. Guy likes his in the refrigerator. It’s too cold for me. It hurts my teeth.

Sammy Hagar Cabo Wabo Tequila

Hagar arguably started the very popular trend of rock stars with their own liquor brands. Even though the Red Rocker has launched a number of different spirit labels, Cabo Wabo Tequila was his first, and it made him a very rich man. Hagar has since sold all of his stake in the brand, but when he first sold 80 percent of Cabo Wabo to Gruppo Campari in 2007, he earned $80 million.

Ever wondered what to drink in Guy Fieri‘s “Flavortown”? We might have an idea. The wild-haired Food Network star has teamed up with rocker Sammy Hagar to create a new tequila called Santo Fino Blanco, and you’ll be able to try it this spring.

10 Marvelous Ways to Mix Up Margaritas

Hagar may be best known for his days with Van Halen, but he’s far from new to the world of food and beverages. He’s the founder of Cabo Wabo Cantina, Sammy’s Beach Bar Rum and the Sammy’s Beach Bar & Grill restaurant chain. Around the turn of the century, Hagar began importing his Cabo Wabo tequila brand into the U.S., eventually selling a controlling share to Gruppo Campari in 2007 for nearly $80 million. And in 2017, Hagar and Maroon 5 singer Adam Levine paired up to make Santo Puro Mezquila, the world’s first and only blend of tequila and mezcal.

Fieri has plenty of foodie fame all his own. In addition to his TV shows, which include “Diners, Drive-Ins and Dives” and “Guy’s Grocery Games,” Fieri owns numerous restaurants, including Guy Fieri’s Vegas Kitchen + Bar and El Burro Borracho in Las Vegas.

Guy Fieri And Sammy Hagar Officially Teamed Up To Create A Tequila

While former Van Halen frontman Sammy Hagar and TV host and restaurateur Guy Fieri might not seem like they have much in common on the surface, the two are actually longtime pals. “I had no choice but to click with him because everybody always thinks I’m him anyway,” Fieri joked to Billboard, explaining that not only do they share “strong work ethics” and a “love of friends, family, food,” they also share a love of tequila.

So Hagar and Fieri did what any hardworking, tequila-loving close friends would do: the two pop culture icons teamed up to create an iconic spirit brand called Santo Spirits in 2019. But the rocker and the Food Network star didn’t want to create just any tequila. They were on a mission to develop “a higher spirit” that is “handcrafted in small batches to highlight the unique flavors of agave in every batch beginning with sustainably sourced 100 percent Blue Weber Agave” .

Guy Fieri’s Secret To Making The Perfect Margarita

I know Sammy’s a big margarita guy. If you’re looking to take your margarita to the next level, a “rockstar” margarita, what sort of additions, enhancements do you suggest?

Sammy: That’s Guy Fieri’s job. He’s the chef. He’s the master chef. He’s invented more twists than I ever had. I was the business 10 years before him, and in the first month, he threw more things at me, his jalapeños and all that stuff. Give me one of your fiery jalapeño tahini rimmed something. Guy, what do you got?

Guy: I’ll tell you this, David. I’ll tell you this and this is probably the … I don’t know. This is one of my most important, and it’s the ice.

Sammy: There you go.

Guy: You think about making a drink and you put the ice in the drink, and then you drink all of it, and then the ice melts in the glass and then you accidentally pick it up and you take a drink of it. It’s just been water on top of ice. And then you take a drink of it and you’re like, “Oh my God, what is in this?” Because the thing is those impurities don’t come out of the ice when it’s super cold. That’s why the Germans, that’s why a lot of folks in Europe drink their beer a little bit warmer. You could really taste the truth of the beer when it’s not as cold.

Sammy: David, you’re not going to argue with that, are you? You’re not going to argue with that. That just blows my mind. That is so correct.

I’m taking him at his word.

Sammy: I just love this f***er.

Guy Fieri is a walking ball of energy. You can see him coming from a mile away, his platinum spiked hair, tattoos, and bling shining brightly. It was as if we were longtime friends when he welcomed me into the kitchen of Montanas famed Horn and Cantle restaurant.

There is a confident enthusiasm in the way he approaches his business, similar to his passion for cooking. The 52-year-old superstar chef is incredibly excited about the newest venture into the spirits industry with the launch of Santo Tequila, along with partner, rock legend Sammy Hagar. Hagar was one of the first celebrities to invest in a booze brand, and Santo Spirits was launched with Juan Eduardo Nuñez, the third-generation master distiller from the famed distillery El Viejito, founded in 1937, in the highlands of Jalisco, Mexico. Together they created a portfolio of Santo spirits delicious old-world style tequila blanco and the worlds first mezquila.

I was a big fan of Sammys and even won an autographed guitar from him when I ended up pouring more of his Cabo Wabo tequila at my restaurants than anyone else, says Fieri. Sammy called me and says I have good news and bad news I sold Cabo Wabo . I told him if he ever did tequila again that I wanted in. Fast forward three years later Sammy calls me and says we are in the tequila business baby!

Guy Fieri & Sammy Hagar Talk Tequila And Their Lasting Friendship

Sammy Hagar y Guy Fieri estrenan el tequila Santo Reposado

If you ever find yourself talking tequila with rock icon Sammy Hagar and Flavortown Mayor Guy Fieri, consider having a shot on hand. And another one for good measure. The longtime friends and business partners behind premium spirits brand Santo bring enough energy into a room to power a Space X rocket through the stratosphere . Friendship and booze were the headline topics during Hagar and Fieri’s exclusive interview with Mashed, and the loquacious superstars had plenty to say on both subjects.

Before George Clooney built his $1 billion Casamigos enterprise and The Rock got cooking with Teremana, Hagar made his mark in the tequila biz with Cabo Wabo, the award-winning brand which netted the former Van Halen frontman a pretty peso when he sold his majority stake in the company to Gruppo Campari in 2007. But after a decade-long contractually-mandated exile, Hagar has returned for a comeback tour and this time around he’s sharing top billing with the undisputed king of the Food Network .

In other words, these two aren’t simply slapping their celebrity names on the label and cashing in a paycheck. As you’ll discover below, Fieri and Hagar’s passion for tequila is as pure as Santo’s blanco, and their hands-on approach to the upstart brand seems to be paying off.
