What Should I Mix With Tequila 6 Cocktails To Try
Whether you go for reposado tequila, an anejo tequila, or a smoky mezcal, we have a number of cocktail recipes for you to make right at home. Let’s jump right into tequila cocktails and recipes.
Back To The Beginning
1800 Tequila is a premium line of tequila by the Jose Cuervo brand, the best-selling tequila company owned by the Beckmann family.
It was launched in 1975 and was originally called Cuervo 1800 Tequila. 1800 apparently refers to the year when tequila was first aged in wooden casks.
Its made from 100% blue weber agave. Why does this matter? Because some tequilas can contain up to 49% of other alcohols, and we all know what happens if you mix your alcohols. 1800 is ideal for drinkers who fear the notorious tequila hangover.
The brands agave plants are grown in the Jalisco region of Mexico. The piñas of the plant are selected after the plant has been growing for eight to twelve years and are at their optimum level of sweetness.
The piñas are then harvested and cooked in traditional clay kilns before being crushed to a pulp. The juice is double distilled in copper pot stills, a process that removes impuritiesand any other components that might cause a throbbing head the next morning.
Finally, its blended with a special selection of other white tequilas to create the distinct flavour of 1800 Tequila.
1800 Tequila is sold in a triangular bottle with a top that serves as a shot glass. The unique shape is designed to resemble the ancient Mayan pyramids, a symbol of Mexicos culture and heritage. The logo includes the brand slogan: Trabajo, Passion, Honestidad .
Tequila Reserva 1800 Silver Review:
This is a superbly smooth Tequila that produces a wonderfully neat and clean flavour profile. The agave used for 1800 is Mexican, bearing the blue agave varietal. It is a dry Tequila, and the delicate, lemony notes have a long, lingering finish.
The colour has been manipulated beautifully by the inclusion of the burnt oak colouring elements, which, along with the copper and gold flakes that is used, adds an extra depth and richness to this drink.
1800 Red is a lighter, more delicate version of this popular Tequila. Again, the finish is long and satisfying, with that sipping quality that characterises a good Tequila.
The 1800 Anejo Tequila is a smooth, medium-bodied and very easy to drink Tequila. Its distinctive, dry flavour profile has a warm undercurrent of aniseed oil, with sweet yet peaty notes emerging towards the end of its long finish.
This Tequila is made with 100% blue agave, and aged over a period of at least one year in oak barrels. It has a light, copper colour, and the smell is slightly sweet, yet is carefully balanced with the oak and spice aromas that travel from the bottle.
It is very easy to drink and will creep down with immense smoothness. A really easy-going and pleasant Tequila.

Tequila And Tonic: A Refreshing Bubbly Cocktail
If you love the Gin and Tonic, you should try the Tequila and Tonic. Its along the same lines, blending white tequila with some tonic water and fresh lime juice. Its refreshing, tart, and delicious.
This drink has a light, refreshing taste that will be appreciated by those who dont love the surplus of really sweet cocktails out there. It goes with any meal and any occasion.
And even though its got two and a half ounces of tequila, the tonic water balances it out and makes it a nice long drink.
Now, lets talk about lime. Traditionally, you would just squeeze one lime wedge into this drink, drop the spent lime into the drink, and serve it.
But I love lime, so I usually go for two to three wedges of juice. And it also depends on the size of your lime. So I say its to taste. Put in a tiny bit of a lime, or turn the drink into tequila limeade. The choice is yours.
Youll taste the tequila in this drink, so pick a bottle you like. I recommend Altos if you like a mild, smooth tequila, and Casa Noble reposado if you want one with a little more bite.
As for the tonic water, Schweppes is a good choice. Or if you want to make your own tonic instead of using store-bought? Check out this tonic making kit that lets you blend your own without any artificial stuff.

To Salt Or Not To Salt
Some mixologists say salt opens up the taste buds and the palate, aiding in the tasting experience. Others say salt neutralizes the sweetness of the cocktail. We at RAVE say salt accompanies the agave and lime flavors nicely, while enhancing the overall margarita experience.
When salting a margarita glass, first swipe a lime around the edge of the glass. That way the salt sticks.

Best Drinks To Mix With Tequila
If you think tequila is only for , or shots bookended with salt and lime, think again. There are plenty of myths about tequila, not to mention confusion about tequila vs. mezcal, but many people don’t know that it’s an incredibly versatile and delicious spirit.
Tequila is made by fermenting juice from the Mexican blue agave plant. The liquor is usually clear, unaged, and between 40 and 50% alcohol . The name comes from the town of Tequila, in Jalisco, the Mexican state where it is produced . Blue agave plants have a pineapple-shaped base that fills with sweet sap, or agua miel as the plant matures. The sap is extracted, fermented, and then twice-distilled for purity.
Much like champagne, tequila can only be called tequila if it meets certain conditions. According to VinePair, true tequila is made from 100% Blue Weber agave, and produced in Jalisco, Mexico, or certain municipalities in Guanajuato, Michoacán, Nayarit, and Tamaulipas. That “100% agave only” rule means that some beverages we might assume are tequila are actually not. To determine authenticity, look for the ingredients on the label. If your tequila contains anything other than 100% blue agave, it’s not tequila. If it contains a worm, it’s also not tequila only mezcal contains worms.
Once you’ve verified your tequila, though, how best to drink it? Here are the 10 best drinks to mix with tequila.
Tequila + Agave Syrup
Mix these two ingredients together, and you have a tequila Old Fashioned without the bitters. You just need a mixing glass, bar spoon, tray of nice ice, agave syrup , and a bottle of your favorite tequila, and youre a twist of the wrist away from having yourself a delectable drink. While a blanco tequila will technically work as the base of this cocktail, it is best to use a reposado or añejo that has more depth, flavor and richness.

What Is Reposado Tequila
Once agave juices are fermented and distilled, they can be bottled right away or poured into barrels for aging. Reposado, which means rested, tequila is aged between 60 days and one year, often in large American, French, or Canadian oak barrels. Some companies will age their spirits in barrels that have been used for other alcohols, like whiskey, wine, or scotch.
Reposado tequila, which typically boasts a brilliant amber hue, absorbs those sweeter spirits, which creates a distinct flavor and color. The aging process mellows the sometimes-harsh, fresh tequila spice but leaves behind plenty of the blue agave flavor. The resulting spirit retains agave funk but has rounder edges and less bite.

- Silver: Clear color, un-aged distilled tequila. Clean pure taste.
- Gold: Amber colored from caramel color or from blending with reposado. Light whiskey-barrel taste.
- Reposado: Aged in wood barrels. Sweeter flavor than gold or silver, with hints of baking spice and toast.
- Añejo and extra añejo: Must be aged from 1-3 years. Taste ranges from smoky brandy to rich and spicy with vanilla notes.
- Mezcal A clear spirit with smoky aroma. Technically, all tequilas are types of mezcal. Mezcals and tequilas are different because they are each made from certain kinds of agave plants. Tequila comes from blue agave and mezcal from smoked or roasted maguey agave.

How Do You Use Reposado Tequila
Use in Cocktails
Reposado adds the oak and vanilla from the time it has spent in barrels, so it is better used in heavier cocktails, although it will perform very well in a Margarita as well. And anejo tequila is often employed as a whiskey substitute in drinks like a Tequila Old Fashioned or Tequila Manhattan.
