Blast Your Summer Playlist As You Enjoy This Crisp Trader Joe’s Wine Recommended To Us By Sommelier And Chef Dana Beninati

Simply Recipes

The wine selection at Trader Joes is expansive, and just like their other products, it changes seasonally. It was just a few weeks ago that their summer wines were released. While several gems can be found in the line-up, one true standout exists. And the best part is, this wine can be yours for under $5.

Espiral Vinho Verde / Gaia, Portugal / Non-Vintage / 9% ABV

Not sure what all that means? Allow me to break it down for you.

First off, if youve yet to taste a Vinho Verde, prepare yourself for a real treat! This wine seemingly dances on your tongue. It is unapologetically bright and intensely refreshing, with the slightest fizzthe bubbles are akin to sparkling water and not as aggressive as those of champagne. This light effervescence keeps inviting you back for another sip. Think crisp green apple and plump Meyer lemons, swollen with sweet juice!

Simply Recipes

Vinho Verde hails from northern Portugal and translates to green wine, referring to the wines youthful character rather than the color of its bottlethe green glass of this tall, slender bottle is easy to spot on a stacked TJs shelf! The juice inside is gorgeously golden, like soft morning sunlight. Because this wine is high in acid, you will enjoy it most when served icy cold. This along with its low alcohol content make it the perfect daytime sipper under the summer sun.

Best: La Paca Sonriente Garnacha Spanish Red Wine From Trader Joe’s

There are many people in the world that choose a bottle of wine based on the label. Don’t scoff, you’ve done it too. La Paca Sonriente Garnacha has one of the more unique labels out there it immediately catches the eye with its one line portrait. It’s often the case that cool labels don’t equal quality drinks, but in this case, it’s the opposite. La Paca Sonriente Garnacha is a red wine that people love, and with good reason. It’s delicious. Moreover, it’s only $6.99 and delicious. It’s bold and earthy, with a great tang of pomegranate and cranberry, and a deeper flavor of cherries. It’s fruity without being sweet. It’s more on the dry side, but drinks relatively smoothly.

There’s a bit of a tannic spice at the beginning that would make it a great pairing with spicier dishes. However, like all good reds, it goes great with beef. While this wine is great straight out of the bottle, wine fans at Vivino say it gets even better when it’s had a chance to breathe for a little bit.

Trader Joes Blanc De Blancs Brut Tasting Notes

The color is pale gold with a hint of silver, and there are plenty of bubbles. The nose is clean and balanced, lemon, green apple, a shock of grapefruit, Anjou pear, a hint of minerality, and a little cream. The Trader Joes Blanc de Blancs Brut is subtle, balanced Bubbly. Not complicated, but enjoyable.

It tastes like soft lemon, crisp apple, a little peach, a salty, nutty sensation, pink lemonade, and lime. The acidity has you smacking your lips and reaching for another sip. This is a solid, tasty, $5.99 French Sparkling wine. There are no off or odd flavors, and it delivers on flavor.

Best Sparkling Wines At Trader Joe’s According To A Sommelier

It’s about time to break out the bubbly and usher in a new year while bidding good riddance to the last. Because we’re obsessed with all things Trader Joe’s, we’d suggest picking up some celebratory bubbles while you’re grabbing chardonnay-soaked cheese.

To get some recommendations for sparkling wines available at Trader Joe’s, we turned to Meghan Vergara, a certified sommelier who worked as a wine buyer in Napa Valley for several years. Now, she heads Veritas Consultants, which runs wine-tasting events and education programs.

“Trader Joe’s has a pretty solid wine program,” Vergara says. “They have huge buying power, so they’re able to source some interesting wines and procure great prices on certain wines.”

But, Vergara acknowledges, all the options can be a little overwhelming, especially for people who aren’t wine experts. “You walk up to a wall of wine, what do you do?”

Priced at just $14.99, this sparkling wine is begging to be a part of your December shindigsor even your regular ol’ Christmas movie nights. “It’s classic, it’s dry, a little toasty. I like this brut with salted buttered popcorn, to be honest with you,” Sloan says of the wine. “We also have a rosé that is actually made with the same grapes in a slightly different order.”

You could use this dry wine in a cocktail, like our Elderflower Champagne Cocktail, or keep it on hand for a New Year’s Eve toast or a celebratory sip with friends.

Worst: Charles Shaw Chardonnay Organic From Trader Joe’s

Behind Trader Joe’s $2 wine

We are all for organic wines. Treating the earth kindly is a great thing and something more winemakers should be doing. Charles Shaw is actually very good about this and has an entire line of organic varieties of many of their wines. They’re also uniquely passionate about how easy it is to open said wines they even have a specially designed cork. If you’ve ever tried to fish out a cork with a knife and gumption, you’d appreciate this feature. However, all the brownie points in the world couldn’t quite save Charles Shaw’s Chardonnay Organic. Sorry.

Chardonnays are known for a distinct flavor, and while Charles Shaw’s organic offering may open up with exactly that, it quickly falls flat and leaves an unpleasant taste on your tongue. Shaw claims that their Chardonnay has a light body, but considering how quickly the flavor dies in your mouth, it may be too light. We may even say the initial taste is too bold, too intense. It’s like this bottle is screaming “I am Chardonnay!” at you. Calm down, we hear you. We just don’t like you.

Does Trader Joes Sell Champagne

Trader Joes does not sell champagne.

Trader Joes sells liquor in all 50 states, allowing grocery stores to sell it. Trader Joes sells the lowest-priced private label alcohol of any major supermarket. A comparable bottle of Charles Shaw wine costs $12.99 at Costco, whereas a bottle of wine from Charles Shaw costs less than $3 at Walmart. When I lived in California, I would frequently stop by TJs to purchase my tequila, bourbon, and vodka. The same bottle is now available for $28 in markets throughout the country. The only places where you can buy them are those where grocery stores sell liquor. The TJ store is widely regarded as one of the best grocery stores in the country, but there are also those who adore ShopRite. My article also looked at the prices for organic products, whether they can be ordered online from both stores, which items are the best to buy at TJ, and which meats are better.

Spoiler Alert: The Bottles Are Gigantic And Festive And I Need Them Right Away

Naturally, I needed to sample them right away before the holidays began to make sure they were a good deal. Lets begin shall we..

TJs offers two options: a french bubbly and an Italian prosecco. I chose the LEclat Blanc de Blancs to sample first because the bottle is so gorgeous and glittery and festive. I thought the bright gold and red design would be particularly pretty displayed on our kitchen counters. The Blanc de Blancs is a perfectly fine sparkling wine for the price and the spectacle. It is fruity and crisp and easy sipping. Its even better in a mimosa the next morning served with blueberry pancakes, or whatever you prefer for brunch. I also just found this fabulous looking holiday cocktail and think it would be great with the LÉclat. This French sparkler will be lots of fun to serve during holiday get-togethers, or as a host/hostess gift.

Best Pinot Noir At Trader Joes

Trader Joes Platinum Reserve Pinot Noir Carneros is one of the livelier reds, combining sweet and sour fruits, cola, and cherry on the palate with a strong tartness. Its rich on the nose, with dark fruit, leather, and tobacco.

We love how this red wine goes with red meat and barbeque food, with the leather and tobacco notes bringing out the best in smoky food.

It also works with hard cheeses, pasta in red sauce, and chocolate desserts.

Lets be honest: Im down for a glass of wine on any day that ends in Y. A good bottle of wine pairs well with just about any occasion. Celebrating a promotion? Wine. Mending a broken heart? Wine. Standing alone at a bar and unsure of what to do with your hands? Wine. Still coping with the Friends finale 15 years later? Wine. Cheese? Wine.

There are only two things that I love more than hearing the crisp pop of a wine cork after a long day of hustling at the office: a sweet deal and my good pal Trader Joe. Trader Joes is home to an impressive selection of vino, and Id be lying if I said that I didnt feel a bit overwhelmed when deciding on what bottle to add to a grocery cart thats already bursting at the seams.

Trader Joes Shuttered Nyc Wine Store To Snuff Out Union Drive Workers Say

The abrupt closure of a popular Trader Joes wine store in New York City came just days before its 30 employees were planning to call a union election. Workers had been organizing for months and were ready to go public with the campaign, they told CBS MoneyWatch.

But on August 11, a few days before the planned announcement, the grocery chain suddenly shuttered the location, only informing affected workers of the closure at 12:01 a.m. that very day. Some employees learned that the store was permanently closing its doors when they showed up to work in the morning.

I found out because I woke up to a million missed calls and texts, said Robert Bradlea, an employee who worked for four years at the Trader Joes wine store and one of the leaders behind the union drive.

That day was kind of a blur waking up, being punched in the gut and drifting through the next hours, hearing how upset my coworkers were, hearing surprise from people who were used to shopping there, Bradlea said, adding that more than two-thirds of the workers were in favor of forming a union.

The closing doesnt make sense to me, unless they didnt want to risk a successfully organized store winning a union vote, Bradlea said. They are hoping to make an example of us so that other people dont follow suit.
