The family-operated The Alchemist brewery is located in the charming New England ski town of Stowe, Vermont. It is the perfect treat to visit as you’re in town on a snowy weekend or enjoying a summer getaway. If you’re an Alchemist fan, you’ve likely tasted their flagship IPA Heady Topper. If you haven’t tried it yet, you absolutely must give it a go, along with their Focal Banger, its unfiltered and refreshing IPA. This brewery is also well known for its fun labels. The Heady Topper artwork, for example, was created by musical artist Dan Blakeslee . The brewery also features original artwork throughout its taproom.

Not only is The Alchemist popular for its awesome brews, but the brewery was also the recipient of the Spirit of ADA award for being “an inspiration and role model to all Vermont employers,” according to Rose Lucenti, chairperson of the Vermont Governor’s Committee on the Employment of People with Disabilities . The Alchemist was given kudos for creatively working with employees who have physical or intellectual disabilities to help them perform their job. It just makes us love this brewery even more.

Best Wheat: Lost Coast Great White

    Courtesy of

Region: California | ABV: 4.8%| Tasting Notes: floral, coriander, pepper

This is a hazy light beer that has the fruity phenols you expect in a wheat beer, Flora says about Lost Coasts Great White. One thing I love is their use of coriander. It gives a floral, peppery aroma that I always try to replicate when I make a wheat beer. The pepper compliments the sweetness of beer perfectly.

Two Roads Brewing In Stratford Connecticut

There’s so much to love about this hip brewery. And if you’re a Robert Frost fan, you’ll love this story. “Two roads diverged in a wood, and I I took the one less traveled by, And that has made all the difference,” wrote Frost somewhere around 1916, and that’s where the name for the Two Roads brewery came from .

Besides the great beer, Two Roads Brewing in Stratford, Connecticut holds some pretty awesome events, including an Ok2berfest every fall, where each ticket holder receives a celebratory beer stein. As if this event couldn’t get any sweeter, they give you your first brew for free. Get ready to post with an inflatable pretzel and your stein and say próst!

This brewery was given a thumbs up from plenty of TripAdvisor reviews as well as being voted one of the best breweries in Connecticut by Bison Brew. They also received the honor of joining the best of Connecticut’s breweries, as granted by newstimes. In addition to an extensive line of brews, you can check out their food truck schedule or go right across the street to PizzaCo to grab an amazingly cheesy, “garage fired” pie. And if you’re feeling like brewery hopping, check out their Area Two Experimental Brewing project for their sour beers, conveniently situated right next door.

Southern Pecan Nut Brown Ale 439% // Lazy Magnolia Brewing Company Kiln Mississippi

Lots of brewers make brown ales that showcase nutty flavors. Lazy Magnolia does them one better by brewing what it calls âthe first beer in the world, to our knowledge, made with whole roasted pecans.â Tossing the quintessentially Southern nut into the recipe may sound like a gimmick, but the addition imparts a deep, nutty flavor that really rounds out the slightly sweet brown ale. You wonât mistake it for pecan pie, but youâll still want to go back for seconds.

Maple Bacon Coffee Porter 64% // Funky Buddha Brewery Oakland Park Florida

The name isnât false advertising. Itâs an impressive feat that is all the more memorable because itâs not just a novelty beer where one sip is enough. Itâs so delicious that you can easily enjoy a pint even well after breakfast.

Ramstein Winter Wheat 95% // High Point Brewing Company Butler New Jersey

Itâs easy to think of wheat beers as thirst-quenching summer refreshers, but Ramsteinâs winter seasonal shows just how complex and dark wheat beer can be. This mighty weizenbock pours cola-brown and is loaded with chocolate, dark fruit, and caramel flavors. Youâll never look at wheat beer the same way after your first sip.

Beer is so many things: Not only is it perfect for both everyday and special occasions, but it’s also both light and dark, both rich and robust, and both sour and sweet. With the ongoing rise of craft beer, it’s also proliferating like never before, which can make it challenging to find the best brew.

From light beers to stout beers, there’s also a wide variety of suds to choose from. There are so many impressive beers out there, and its fun to navigate the different styles and regional strengths. Why limit yourself to one genre? says Jeff Moses, a career brewer and craft bottle house pioneer he’s also taken part in assembling beers for his award-winning Monterey Bay Beer Festival and San Francisco Holiday Beer Festival.

It’s a great question. So, to help you fill your favorite beer glass, here are our picks of the best beers to drink.

What Kind Of Beer Did We Choose

What’s the Best Beer in the World? | The Craft Beer Channel

For this test, we focused on domestic, light lagers. These are the pale beers were all familiar withthink Budweiser, Michelob and Miller Lite. Theyre exactly the kinds of beers you expect to find in a cooler on game day, at the lake or at a picnic. These beers are widely available and affordable. Prices vary everywhere, but typically these beers run a dollar or less per 12-ounce can or bottle. Were looking for the best cheap beer so the price is important!

    Brewer: Latrobe Brewing Company

    ABV: 4.6%

Talk about a beer brand with history! Rolling Rock was first produced in Pennsylvania in 1939 following the repeal of Prohibition. . Since then, the company has been sold several times and the beer has been reformulated, most recently in 2016. So its not too surprising that many testers said that Rolling Rock just wasnt as good as they remembered. Were going to cross our fingers and hope that this light American lager gets another reboot and tastes as refreshing as it once did.

Brewer: D.G. Yuengling & Son, Inc.

    ABV: 4.4%

Never heard of Yuengling before? You can only find it out on the East Coast and in the South, so next time youre on a road trip, keep an eye out for it.

    Best Pilsner: Rothaus Pils Tannenzpfle

    Courtesy of

Region: Germany | ABV: 5.1% | Tasting Notes: Malt, Floral, Lemon

Ah yes, the pilsner: Germany’s most-consumed beer category, and the basis of all of the ubiquitous American lagers that trace their lineage back to German immigrants in the 19th century. For a bit more obscure of a pilsner, try a Rothaus Pils Tannen Zäpfle, which Camstra says is a classic from the Black Forest region of Germany, produced by the state-owned brewery in Baden-Wurttemberg, which definitely gives the Czech a run for their money for best pilsner in the world. The beer has recently gained a cult following in New York, after a homesick German ex-pat, Tobias Holler, implored Rothaus for years to export the beer so he could serve it at his Brooklyn beer hall. In 2014 he succeeded.

Heady Topper 8% // The Alchemist Waterbury Vermont

You canât look at many âWorldâs Best Beerâ lists without seeing the iconic imperial IPA from Vermontâs the Alchemist. With so much buzz surrounding the silver-and-black pint cans, can the beer inside possibly live up to the hype? You bet. If anything, Heady Topper exceeds most reasonable expectations. Itâs a dank, piney hop bomb that doesnât feel gratuitously bitter. It packs quite a punch without feeling boozy. And for such a celebrated IPA, itâs surprisingly balanced. If you only drive to small-town Vermont for one beer, make it this one.

How Long Can You Store German Beers

The 25 Best Beers from America

Alcohol acts as a preservative, so the lower the ABV, the fresher you should plan to drink your German beers. Store your pilsner and your schwarzbier no longer than 4 to 6 months. Even the relatively high-alcohol dopplebocks are generally most expressive when consumed fresh, but while a year or more of aging might decrease the carbonation a bit, the flavors and the mouthfeel will likely still be just as lovely.

Amber lagers are often overlooked for flashier beers, but theyre among brewings most crowd-pleasing beers. The best in class is Great Lakes long-running Eliot Ness, an amber lager named after the famous Prohibition law-enforcement agent. The smooth and mildly sweet lager drinks clean and toasty, with a touch of spicy, floral hops for balancing. Pair the beer with grilled sausages or a pizza crowned with pepperoni or sausage.

    Dogfish Head 90 Minute Ipa

Drawing inspiration from a cooking show, Dogfish Head Craft Brewery founder Sam Calagione developed an innovative technique for hopping IPAs, adding them slowly but continuously over the 90-minute boil period. The evolving hop character of the resulting IPA was a resounding success, and Dogfish Head would go on to release 60-, 75-, and 120-minute variants.

When Oktoberfest is over and the beer steins are put away, its easy to forget that the world owes much of its gratitude to Germany for creating some of the most tried-and-true beer styles. The mighty lager, the beer that has found a home in Michelin-starred restaurants and the dusty fridge in your parents garage alike, can be traced back to a corner of the globe known as Germany before “Germany” even existed. Budweiser is a lager, sure, but so are the beers that grace the long tables of Oktoberfest. These ancient beers, which are distinguishable from ales by the fact that they utilize bottom-fermenting yeasts that thrive at cooler temperatures, are the building blocks of any beer education.

There will always be room for well-made lagers in the world of American craft beer, and this is being increasingly proven by more and more breweries producing them and more and more craft beer fans seeking them out, says Rob Camstra and Nick Guyton, director of brewing operations and head brewer at Gemüt Biergarten in Columbus, Ohio. The German-inspired brewery and beer garden opened in Columbus Olde Towne East neighborhood in late 2019. A big part of our focus at Gemüt is that we do not want to chase trends: clean, well-crafted lagers are a family of beer styles that are timeless.

Best Pale Ale: Half Acre Daisy Cutter Pale Ale

    Courtesy of Minibar

Since Chicagos Half Acre debuted Daisy Cutter in 2009, the beer has become one of the Midwests most essential pale ales, worthy of a pilgrimage in its own right. When Im in Chicago Im pretty sure I go straight to Half Acres taproom for a pint of Daisy Cutter, says Em Sauter, an advanced cicerone and the founder and cartoonist behind Pints and Panels.

The beers biscuit-y base serves as a stage for fragrances that flit from a Pacific Northwest pine forest to ripe tropical fruit, creating a beer thats wonderfully drinkable with a pleasant tangerine-peel taste, says Sauter. I would fill a fridge with this beer.

De La Senne Saison De La Senne

    ABV: 4.3%From: Brussels, Belgium

“Enjoyed as a post-Thanksgiving dinner treat, it was this beer that immediately made my fiancée and my head turn, and not only because it has one of the best resumes in the game, with two iconic Belgian establishments, Brasserie de la Senne and Brassiere Cantillon, on the same label. Donning a glowing tarnished-gold color and rocky off-white head, the beauty of this saison, which is made by blending old lambic from Cantillon, is in aroma. It’s both new-wave tropical dominant of lime zest, passion fruit, quince paste, and soft peach, with an underlying lambic-aged hop funk and subtle oak character to spark curiosity. The body starts soft with a complex funk and stone fruit upfront then tannins, a gripping bitterness, and lime pith dries out the body beautifully. Its like a well-orchestrated symphony in liquid form!” Chris Leguizamon, advanced cicerone and education program manager at Pure Project Brewing
